JANSSEN BIOLOGICS PROVIDE LIONS CLUB AND ST. VINCENT DE PAUL WITH HAMPERS FOR NEEDY THIS CHRISTMAS
Thanks to the management and staf at Janssen Biologics, Ringaskiddy who have donated 100 hampers to our Christmas Food Appeal. The demand is greater than ever this year as there are many families in very bad economic circumstances and thanks to this very generous donation, some of these families will get a little bit of relief this Christmas. The Food Appeal took place this weekend in Supervalu and Dunnes Stores Carrigaline and Centra Crosshaven. There was a tremendous response from the public in both towns and the food is currently being sorted and packed ready for distribution next weekend. A big thanks to all who contributed.

A Family Fun Day In Aid Of Local Charities

The St. Stephens Day Challenge match is an annual event that is contested between Carrigaline Utd AFC and Carrigaline Hurling and Football Club.

Now in it’s 6th year, the St. Stephens Day Challenge Match has raised over €15,000 so far, with all monies raised given to the Carrigaline Lions Club who distribute it to local charities.

Pictured at the launch of the St. Stephen’s Day Challenge in Rosies Bar were Greg O’Halloran & Kalen Spillane (Cork City FC) with Pat O’Sullivan, Carrigaline Lions Club.

Each year this match alternates between Carrigaline Soccer Club and Carrigaline GAA Club with the host club playing their preferred code. This year the Challenge Match is being hosted by the Carrigaline Hurling & Football club at their grounds on the Crosshaven road kicking off at 1PM on St. Stephen’s Day. The line up for the day is as follows:

Throw-in for the ladies game is at 1pm followed by the Legends teams (Golden Oldies ) which includes past and present players form both clubs. Finally wrapping up proceedings on the pitch are the Senior teams from both clubs which will also include in their line-ups Greg O’Halloran & Kalen Spillane (Cork City FC) and Nicholas Murphy & Michael Shields (Cork Senior Footballers). Off the pitch and in the club house bar, DJ Roy will be spinning the tunes while in the main hall, there will be entertainment between 3pm & 5pm for all the children.

As in previous years, there will be a prize raffle draw. This year’s 1st prize in the raffle consists of 2 Heineken Cup tickets plus there are many more vouchers and hampers to be won. Lines cost €2 with the draw taking place on the day.

We would like to thank all our generous sponsors including our main sponsor Paddy Cronin of Rosie’s Bar Carrigaline and other sponsors KWP Print and Cogan’s Toyota.

Daniel Marnane, a pupil at Scoil Mhuire Lourdes in Carrigaline, has taken first prize in the local Peace Poster competition organised by the Carrigaline & District Lions Club and his poster will now be submitted to the district level where he will be competing with children from all over Ireland.

Over 50 children from various schools in Carrigaline entered the competition and an awards ceremony was held recently in the Carrigaline Court Hotel where prizes were presented to the top three entrants:

  1. Daniel Marnane, Scoil Mhuire Lourdes, Carrigaline
  2. Brian O’Leary, Scoil Mhuire Lourdes, Carrigaline
  3. Kimberly White, Carrigaline Educate Together N.S.

Some of the entries can be viewed here. At the ceremony, Carrigaline & District Lions Club President, John Doran, said he was impressed by the expression and creativity of the children that entered. “It’s obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them. I’m very happy that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions.” Continue Reading »
