Outgoing Lions Club President Pat O’Sullivan handed over the chain of office to incoming President Adrian O’Herlihy at the Lions Club meeting last Thursday night. The meeting also acknowledged the long years of service by Michael Sharkey as Club Treasurer and Michael has now handed on this role to Mark Ginn. Michael was the first President of the club back in 1988 and he continues as an active member. After the meeting, club members and their partners met in Hogan’s bar & restaurant for a buffet supper and some liquid refreshment.

Congratulations to Carrigaline Lions Club member, James O’Sullivan, who was voted Vice District Governor Elect of District 105i (Ireland) at the annual Lions Club convention held recently at the Rochestown Park Hotel. James has a long association with Lions and was President of the Carrigaline club back in 1992/93.
Congratulations to Mark Ginn, who received the Carrigaline Lions Club Member of the Year award at the club’s annual dinner recently. In announcing the winner, club president, Pat O’Sullivan highlighted Mark’s brilliant contribution in organising the club’s annual charity cycle from Carrigaline to Kenmare and many other club events. Mark thanked the club for the award and said that he enjoyed every minute of helping out with various activities. Mark was president of the club in 1994-95 and has remained a popular and enthusiastic member ever since.
GIGANTIC FIGHT BACK ENDS IN PENALTY SHOOT OUT ….
On Sunday 28th October at Ballea Park, Carrigaline played Fermoy in the U14 Lions Club Cup. Carrigaline looked dead and buried coming up to half time when they were 3-0 down. However, this team which has shown great fighting spirit in previous games with a never say die attitude, again proved their mettle as they came back superbly and almost pulled off what would have been an incredible victory had they not been denied by the lottery of a penalty shoot out. Carrigaline Lions Club are helping to form a new Lions Club at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT). CIT Lions Club recently participated in the annual CIT Societies Day and received interest from 75 students. The first meeting will be held at CIT Bishopstown Campus on Tuesday the 16th of October in Meeting Room 2. Members of the Carrigaline Lions Club visited the Herne Lions Club in Germany from the 12th to the 14th of May. These two clubs are twinned with each other and this was the third visit by Carrigaline members to Herne. The Carrigaline guests received a very warm welcome and experienced tremendous hospitality from their German hosts.
